My father passed away at Christmas and I'm helping my mother deal with everything. The solicitor dealing with the Grants of Administration has advised that there is still a charge on the house when the property search was done.
I know the mortgage was cleared in full in 1998 and I have the Form 53.
What can be done to remove the charge? The original lender no longer exists as it was taken over by the high street bank who has the charge on the property. My father was not a borrower (apart for the mortgage) so any chance of a 2nd charge is 0.

Which lender? Generally the "new" bank can discharge such things. The solicitor should know this stuff.1

My property had a charge by the Woolwich, mortgage provider. I wrote to Barclays who returned a letter confirming no interest in the property. A simple and relatively quick process.0
