Hi Folks

I'm thinking of buying a new car, but can't decide whether to go for a petrol or hybrid car.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Thank You

Brand new? Choose the car then the power train that matches your requirements.

But why not an EV if you can charge at home a second hand EV is where the value is at.

Impossible to answer such a question without more info on what the car is needed for.

Petrol or EV, hybrid is the worst of both worlds.

True in principle but also depends a lot on the brand. For example, I would buy a Toyota hybrid over their one and only EV any day.

My son works for a well known German importer that has two brands - let’s call them Big and Small. With the Bigs they are much the same powertrain wise but for the Small brand the latest crop of petrol cars are awful, sluggish and clunky whilst the EVs are astonishingly good to drive. (And this is coming from a die-hard petrolhead)

Really depends on what your driving profile is and are you talking plug in Hybrid or self charging?

If you mostly do short journeys of less miles that they EV side of the hybrid covers but semi regular longer journeys than the full EV car would do then it could be a good compromise.

For most people that isn't the case and they end up driving a petrol with a load of extra weight around half the time.

I was extremely sceptical about self charge hybrids when I was looking to change my car. But as I wanted an automatic small SUV with a good warranty the only car that appealed to me at the time was a Kia Niro, and the self charge hybrid was the only option for my budget. Since owning it I have been really pleased. Returns 65 mpg and no range anxiety, so for me it is the best of both worlds.
Although I am not planning to change it anytime soon, I will be going for the self charge option again when I do.

Lots of pre-reg Kia Niro BEV's on Autotrader for £24k -  74 plate with 10 miles. Realistic range ~250 miles.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.
