Sorry to ask a question that must have been asked in a thousand forms before, I just can't find a thread with an answer to this.

I bought a motherboard, 2 months later it stopped working. I am aware that this gives me a right to a replacement or repair. However, the retailer is saying that return postage costs are my responsibility.

Is this correct? If not what should I be quoting to the retailer to inform them of this?

Thanks!

Edit: This is their terms: https://www.quietpc.com/terms

Which say the same thing, that return postage is the customers responsibility. So just looking to know if this goes against actual consumer rights in one way or another.

Your statutory right to replacement or repair is found in the Consumer Rights Act 2015 section 23(2), which says:

'If the consumer requires the trader to repair or replace the goods, the trader must...bear any necessary costs incurred in doing so (including in particular the cost of any labour, materials or postage).'

So it is the seller's responsibility, there in black & white.

Assuming you're looking at the section titled "Money Back Guarantee / Returns" then that's their returns policy which is separate to your consumer rights.

Make it clear that you're requiring a repair or replacement under your statutory consumer rights. Under those, since its over 30 days its up to the trader whether they repair or replace. However they would be liable for postage costs.

They could also opt to refund you ... the full amount you paid ... rather than repair or replace. But in all cases any returns cost is theirs to bear in this situation.
