Hey all.
So I'm completely at a loss here and I'm hoping someone can help me 🙏.
In the early hours of Saturday 28th March I made the fatal mistake of ordering a sofa on line.
It wasn't until late Saturday evening that it dawned on me that I hadn't checked out any reviews for this * company* something that I've always done.
Anyhow I took a look & immediately had serious regrets.
Loads of negative reviews ranging from the wrong sofas being delivered, damaged on arrival,no communication and some of the most bizarre delivery times I've ever heard of.
11pm through to 02.30am!.
So by this point I'm certain I'm cancelling the order.
I also financed it through a company on a 3 month payment plan ( 0% interest).
So on the Monday I email the company and tell them I want to cancel the order,I also informed the finance company too.
Anyway I didn't hear anything from the sofa company until day 3,they wanted the order number, then once they had got that then they asked why I wanted to cancel the order.
I explained in my email the reasons why & kept it polite.
Then it goes quiet again so every day I'm asking for confirmation of the cancelled order and they just ignore my request.
I got my partner to email from his address 4 hours after I had sent mine with just a generic question about delivery.
They responded to him in two minutes!.
I then get a reply about 8 hours later asking why I wanted to cancel.
I've already told them why.
Now having spoke to the finance company they've informed me that I'm still liable for the loan, but they will contact them after 5 days of no response to see what's happening.
My worry is that they will reply to me before the 5 days is up so they can continually keep me on this loop.
I also suspect they will try & Deliver the sofa at some point ( even though I've cancelled it) and then tell me I will have to pay for the return ( £150).

This is money I just can't afford to lose & knowing that I could still have to pay for this loan for something I've cancelled daily is really beginning to worry me.

Please someone help me.🥺

  • Which website did you buy from OP?

Doesn’t really matter as online purchase has right to cancel (assuming retailer in the UK).

If you've cancelled you've cancelled, and they're obviously proving that they've received communications from you.

Aside from your consumer rights, which give you the right to cancel, are you perhaps acting a little hastily?  Reviews are typically left by those having a negative experience, so they're perhaps not representative of all customers.

    Which retailer is it?

Yes they have replied twice over the 5 days.
The main problem is that without acknowledgement that I've cancelled the order I'm still liable for the loan.

Are you not within the 14 days cooling off period for the loan anyway?

    Hiya thanks for replying.
The company is called sofaway & the loan company is called pay it monthly.
I know it seems like I'm being hasty but if you go on trustpilot & view their reviews it shows the issues that people are having.
The positive ones ( not all) have been quoted as being false.
I've never in my life had a delivery at 02.30 in the morning!

No, you've cancelled, like I said. Obviously it isn't conditional on the retailer agreeing that they're happy you're cancelling.

Apparently not, they are two separate companies & according to the loan company I'm liable for the debt until sofaway acknowledge the cancellation, which they aren't responding to..

I've cancelled the sofa which shouldn't be an issue as I did it within 36 hours.
The loan company are a complete separate company to the sofa company and until I can get sofaway to inform them that the order is cancelled I literally can't do anything about it.
I could honestly kick myself for doing this when half asleep & not thinking straight.
