HSBC sole current account

I have joint HSBC Current and Savings accounts.  I also have a sole HSBC Savings account and an HSBC credit card, which is in my sole name.  I now want to open a sole HSBC Current account, so that I can move funds from my sole Savings account into my sole Current account for payment elsewhere.
However, online banking tells me that I can only open a sole account online if I am a new HSBC customer.  So because I have had a joint Current account with them for over 50 years, I have to go into a Branch for a ONE HOUR interview before I am allowed to have a Current account in my sole name, whereas a new HSBC customer can open an account online without further ado.
Am I missing something?  Or has anyone else had this problem and found a way around it?  (I have mobility issues, so going into a branch several miles away is not easy for me)

If it has to be HSBC, you could move your sole banking to its sister brand, First Direct.

Ignore what the website says and open the sole account as a "new customer" online.

HSBC should recognise you are an existing customer after it has been opened..

    Thanks gt94sss2. I'll give that a try.

i am not sure that will work because if it’s anything like First Direct, even though you are trying to apply as a new customer the system will recognise your details as already existing and won’t allow you to progress any further.
