Finding somewhere that will take 3 dogs also complicates things. I’ve just looked on Canine cottages at Loch Nesd for mid July, for places that take 3 dogs, and there are only two!

We have 3 dogs and stayed south of the Cairngorms in a lovely cottage in Cortachy, place slept 8, took 3 dogs, was peaceful and in the countryside with lovely views.  Not very close to the lochs you wanted but maybe an alternative?  We went in late May and had no problems with midges

They were all so negative we are now thinking it may be a bad idea and to wait until September onwards for scotland

Are they all just scaremongerers or are they right ?

    cheers

As a aside I have never been bothered with midges in Cumbria, have I just been lucky or is there a reason for this?
They are about up here in Cumbria (especially in some of the hotspots- Wasdale Head for example) but they're not anywhere near as pernicious or as mean. They're like midgies on tranquilizers. :)

I’ve been to Cumbria many times.  I’ve never seen a single midge.  I suspect that’s because I always go outside the high season.

Sadly family illness caused us to cancel it, but a friend of ours did. I'll ask how he got on

I was bitten by midges in early October on the Isle of Skye and bitten very badly in June near Tarbert on the kintyre peninsula. Go to the east coast. Three dogs?

I shall be up in Scotland for work in a few weeks time, I was recommended a spray called smidge, I'm going to be buying this as I'll be around standing water for much of trip.

I will be on the east coast quite north up

Smidge is very good. Make sure put it on all exposed areas before you go outside.

I also recommend a midge net for your head  as Smidge keeps them off you but you  are liable to breathe them in.

Thank you, my Uncle was in Africa one year, thought he'd been thorough with the repellent. In the morning he couldn't open his eyes as he'd forgotten his eyelids

With the recent VJ Day commemorations it was noticeable in the photograph's that the lads who were there in 1945 were all clad in long trousers and long sleeve shirts to protect them from mosquitos and malaria.
