I have manged to go online to make a claim fro present tax year 2024/25. However I only wanted to claim this year and not backdate. There was no option. I did not want to claim for backdated years. Will this be an issue or is it just how it works online. I managed to do this prior to the cut off for 2024/25. I also managed to cancel the claim so it doesnt go on into 2025/6.

So if you haven't been asked about prior years then there shouldn't be an issue.0 -
no i wient online i had different options. there was no option for present year only. I had to click on present year and up to 4 previous ones option. There was no other way. Or did i miss clicking on something to bring up presnet year only. I cant get back into the screen to see if i could click and bring another section up. Ok so claim is wrong term but im sure you realise i "was making an application". Yes im hoping its a case of if its not meeting the criteria it will just void those other years being applicable

So a couple both earning £25k are both eligible.
The person who applies is agreeing to have a reduced Personal Allowance.
If the other party could "claim" Marriage Allowance they could make their spouse/civil partner pay tax unnecessarily just to they got the £252 tax reducer.0 -
