Parental controls on PC

Hey!

I need to set up some parental controls on my sons PC...mainly block the internet after a set time, and an ability to block websites and see the history if he tries to delete it...

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks

Can't be done, kid's can always get past technical controls.

It would be very difficult, and kids will generally find their way around restrictions.

You might be best off exploring hardware solutions - I'm thinking a router that can disable wifi on a schedule and restrict/log web activity. I have no experience in this though, so cannot really recommend, however Google always helps to kick off doesn't it? https://www.google.com/search?q=routers+with+Wireless+Schedule

Even if you get a hardware solution, what's to stop the kid browsing sites you don't want them to on their phones through the cellular network? Or setting their phone up to be a wifi hotspot and tethering their PC through that? Or buying their own router and replacing the one that has the restrictions.  I'd imagine they'd also be able to factory reset the restricted router with a pin too.

Only sure fire way is to turn the router off and ensure they don’t have access to any devices able to connect to phone/data network.

Anything else can be reasonably bypassed

Unless you have the means and ability to introduce commercial network tools etc

OK, you're going to need an Admin account with strong password on the PC and downgrade (if needed) your son's login to have just user privs. Then as Admin install Microsoft Family Safety and configure it as you want. NB Family Safety only works with Edge, so part of setup is ensuring Firefox, Chrome etc. browsers can't be installed and run.

I'd also put a strong password on your home router and see what it can offer such as limiting certain devices from connecting outside set hours. On the router, look at setting the default DNS to be a filtering DNS like OpenDNS FamilyShield (208.67.222.123) which blocks resolving URLs to a curated list of unsavoury sites.

Phone has parental controls for the hours we don't want him on it.

Thanks for the advice thus far.
