50% discount for lasting power of attorney

To claim the discount would a print out of my HMRC personal PAYE page showing my pensions for the whole tax year suffice?  I do not have an official letter which is what it asks for or recent P60s.

So is the only pension you have your state pension?  Or is it something else?  If it's something else then the pension administrator should be able to provide a letter saying how much you get per year.  This is assuming you have a steady income from your pension and are not taking drawdown or similar.

If your only pension is your state pension and your income is low enough to qualify for an exemption it sounds like you might also qualify for pension credit - something to consider.  I'm not sure if qualifying for that would count as one of the acceptable benefits.

  • I only have occupational pensions.  The HMRC site shows the whole amount paid for the tax year to 5th April 2025.  I hoped a print out of this would suffice rather than having to wait for the pension providers to supply letters.

Are you younger than the qualifying age for state pension? The OPG LPA120 form does not say that a printout of the HMRC site is acceptable, although it might seem a reasonable and sensible suggestion. So I think that the only possibility are the "pensions – an official letter or notice from the payer" as the form says. Around this time of year all my pensions send me a letter telling me how much I will be getting in the next year, and I get a payslip from each one when the payment changes, as is required by law. So I don't think you need to wait long if at all for the necessary notices.
  • Yes not old enough for state pension.   Thanks for your reply.

It would make a lot of sense if they would accept that. Why not email them and check if that's acceptable? customerservices@publicguardian.gov.uk
