Dishwasher not dispensing soap

Hi
I have Bosch Hydrosensor dishwasher that came with the house purchase. 
I replaced this dispenser part as the soap compartment lid wouldn't stay shut. Now the lid on the new replacement won't open during a cycle. The washer maybe twenty five years old going on the model info. Model:
Sgs5342gb/17

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas what the problem might be?
I've replaced the old oven and washing machine with Beko replacements so maybe time to do the same with this.

The lid on our dishwasher (a completely different model from yours) stopped opening due to a fault with the main controller rather than anything to do with the door or dispenser itself. We just chucked a tablet in the bottom of the machine instead. It worked perfectly like that for four years until a technician doing a flat-fee repair of an unrelated problem replaced the main board and the dispenser started working again.

Anyway, that was all a long way of saying that your issue may not be with the dispenser or door at all....

If you use tablets and don't pre-wash/rinse then you could just put the tablet in the bottom of the dishwasher and forget about the dispenser.

Yes, did try that and have also turned the pre-rinse setting off.
I think some of the tablet remained in the bottom of the dishwasher. That was a supermarket brand one but have now bought Finish Powerball tablets.

If the new one has never worked it could be faulty or you could have damaged something while fitting it. Check all the wiring in the area and where it goes from the door to the base of the machine. Wiring on old dishwashers can go funny over the years, must be the chemicals in the tablets.

As others have said, just chuck the tablet in the bottom for now.
