This is the second year of my cat being microchipped. Identbase charge £15.00 per year to be on their database. For £15.00 they advertise as follows:

Annual keeper certificate
Secure data storage
Missing pet helpline
Unlimited changes to your account
Covers all pets in your household with an identichip microchip
Instant alert when your pet’s chip is scanned (email)

worth the money?    what do other moneysaving pet owners do?

Trinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!

My cats were both chipped when I had them -  certainly not paying anything .
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

I hear you, so basically you had your cats chipped, and that's it, with no ongoing costs? that sounds interesting.

I recall when I changed address for the chip (paid a fee to change) and they said it would be cheaper if I signed up for a subscription. I declined. Sounds like you signed up.

I’m thinking of all the cats we have in the family and all are chipped but nobody pays a yearly fee, have had some of the cats for nearly 20 years, never had a yearly fee to pay.  I think you are being ripped off.

Do you  want the extras Identichip offer?

Basic registration is free, but you will pay for any changes you make, such as change of address etc.

With them £15 subscription is the only way to change your details but you can subscribe and then cancel 11 months later if you want.

Other providers you can update your details by paying a one off fee but most have a subscription model and most are more than £15. If its worth it depends on if you place any value on the extra services you get, some for example enable adding a temporary contact so if your off treking in the Amazon so out of communication you can register a friend temporarily to be contacted in your absence if your pet is found.

We haven't had a pet for a while but had the dog microchipped anyway. We went for the PAYG option rather than subscription.
