Anyone know if it is possible to claim NI credit from being a carer 8 years ago, when you did not claim carers allowance?

    No I don't think that is possible. 

    Could they have qualified for NI credits based on other factors? E.g. Child benefit claim.
    The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

    My wife has an active reconsideration (which they lost and were supposed to get back to us on today importantly but didn't) following a decision not to backdate Carers Credit beyond the start of the previous financial year. But in her case we've asked for exceptional circumstances to apply due to her being a migrant who could never determine if she was allowed to qualify for such due to restrictions on public funds... and it seems the DWP still cannot take a decision on the matter. So whether it is possible... hmmm.. maybe in exceptional circumstances but not usually beyond their usual backdating limit.
