I’m so sorry if this is long, I am beside myself with worry and really struggle with communications, I have really bad anxiety, I Willy ray be as brief as possible.
this is in Scotland so I don’t know if that makes a difference.
I saved up and took my 3 year old to McDonald’s, I didn’t realise the McDonald’s I took her too had a car park that was not free like they usually are. I was in for 1 hour and 10 mins, it took a while to get her in the car as she was a tad upset.
i get a charge notice for £100 from UKCPS, I was sick with worry and explained my situation and wasn’t sure what the stay limit was and about circumstances. I sent pictures of the area as thought it was a mistake as it was the McDonald’s car park used.
they rejected the claim and I responded to the email asking what the time limit was. I now realise it was a no reply email that I hadn’t picked up on as I was in a full blown meltdown.
i spoke to the McDonald’s restaurant and the manager said they would get in touch with the parking company and I thought it was sorted as since February I haven’t heard anything else.
I now have a letter from Trace Debt Recovery with a further £70 added on top, and after explaining I tried to reach UKCPs and didn’t har back, although now realise was no reply, but thought after I spoke with the restaurant directly who said they would call UKCPS everything was sorted as I never heard anything further from them giving another reminder or anything that it was sorted.
The people on the call were very abrupt, I explained I do need a little bit of help to talk things through because of my anxiety and J was so worried at what’s happened and how. I asked if I could maybe speak to someone about what to do as if I had to contact UKCPS the only option appears to write a complaint as there doesn’t appear to be another avenue for dialogue. They said well they wouldn’t pause anything and payments due within 14 days even though by time I write send and get a response from UCPS it will probably be over 30 days.
What terrified me was the agent mentioned they aren’t regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and are an unregulated firm.

Which has me even more sick with worry about them taking me to court for a CCJ - I work as part of a bank nothing serious but will impact my job if I have any debt or court findings, which is serious and partly why I am in full panic mode.
my question is should I pay this unregulated firm? What’s to say that it will be done if they aren’t regulated? I have no idea what to do and what consequences will be and don’t want to loose my job over a £5 McDonald’s treat I worked hard to take my child out for.

No - do not pay.
Read the newbees thread ( it's different for Scotland )
You cannot get a CCJ unless:
1. IF You go to court
2. IF You lose in Court
3. IF You then fail to pay whatever the judge awards (won't be much anyway) within 28 days.
As you can see - it's a lot of IFs - they try to scare you with the threat of a CCJ but that will not happen if you follow all the steps.

But zero chance of proceedings in Scotland, there are no CCJs in Scotland3 -
Stop fretting or panicking. If this is in Scotland, nothing whatsoever can happen. You can safely ignore everything you get regarding this. It will all die away eventually.3

You can expect to be bombarded with letters from debt collectors, using threatening language. It is how they work. Do not let them get to you. They really cannot hurt you.
The pen is mightier than the sword ..... and I have many pens.4 -
Don't believe everything they threaten in their letters. Scotland is different lots of forum threads like this one
