Marriage Allowance postal deadline

Hi,

I tried to claim for the past years marriage allowance today, from 2020/21, on the Government Gateway, but I receive a message saying I have to apply via post using a form. Is there a deadline for this method, would the form have to be with them by the 5th of April (tomorrow)?

Thanks.

Yes, it would have to have been received by 5 April (for 2020-21).

Any reason to leave it so late 😃

You can still make if via overnight delivery (just costs a bit more). Be aware there is an issue with the MATCF form provided by HMRC - ie the form available via their webpages is not recognized by HMRC as their current form. Use it anyways but if you get a rejection letter phone them immediately at 0300 200 3300 to get it resolved (that's what we had to do today). HMRC should be aware of this issue now as there have been complaints. Good luck.

Thanks I did use the form, so will wait and see what comes back. I sent via Next day guaranteed delivery before 1pm, collected yesterday from post office, but it wasn't delivered today. Tracking still shows as "due for delivery today". So pretty pointless (and expensive) service if it hasn't been delivered next day (as appears).

Were you expecting HMRC to be open for delivery on a Saturday?

You are aware that the likes of HMRC do not sign for these, they are signed for by RM (same a large companies) or staff would be tied up for hours signing for each letter.
It will then take a while to be scanned onto system & be worked.

Sounds good, hopefully will hear something in due course. Otherwise, is what it is. Thanks anyway.
