Since your driving test, when did you last check your driving-related knowledge?
Either online or by reading the Highway Code. Have you had your eyes tested?

All the time, I have a copy of the Highway Code and a copy of Road Smart the police drivers handbook.

I’m 84 and passed my test in 1962, 4 yers ago I joined the Institute of Advanced Motorists purely to check if I was safe on the road which was confirmed I am

I had cataracts removed in December and an eye test in February this year

I hope to drive for many years yet

Every so often I'll do one of these daft motoring quizzes that pop up on FB if I'm feeling bored.  Always get 100% (although I'm well aware they're pretty much just meaningless click-bait).  I've also done quite a few of the free mock theory tests, just out of interest, again I always find them easy-peasy (I passed my test long before the theory test was introduced).
Every so often I'll have a browse through the Highway Code, especially if there's been a news item about new changes.
    Eyes tested every year.

I don’t think I’ve looked at the highway code since I passed my test many years ago. I occasionally pick up new bits of information from the news, such as the changes for priority with pedestrians. Other than that I am probably clueless.

Eye tests are more regular because I already wear glasses.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I sometimes do one of the practice tests you can access online, both the multiple choice and hazard perception sections - just to see if there's something I haven't come across before.  I go to the optician regularly and would book an extra visit if I noticed changes in my eyesight.

Joined IAM and took their advanced driving course. Bought an up to date Highway Code and read it.

Eyes tested when our UK licences were endorsed in Spain. Included the Atari style ski game where you have to keep two white blobs on two different “roads” via a potentiometer in each hand. Presumably that’s to pick out the stroke victims with no corpus callosum.

Since then had to brush up being the patient Dad taking two kids for hours of driving practice.

Like - it’s illegal to hold a mobile phone as a supervising driver - seen plenty of supervising parents on their mobile thinking it’s ok as they aren’t actually behind the wheel.

Almost 80 and had routine eye test/exam last May. All good. I do have a recent copy of H.C. and have also completed some of the online theory tests successfully.
I would certainly be on favour of assessments for over 70s, possibly carried out by a DSA driving instructor. However, after witnessing some of the poor driving behaviour in their cars, by pupils under instruction, I would be a bit wary of that!

Driving is a very responsible task, it may be a good idea to have ongoing tests for every driver, which could be theory or practical, anyone that commits a driving offence should be forced to do more training.

They are sometimes offered one (as you know)

There is a case for any subsequent events being penalised at a higher rate is there not as if one continues to offend following a refresher then They can’t have learnt anything

Everyone should have an eye test at least every 2 years. You can also pick up potential eye related illness before it gets too bad. If you are a DSE user at work, your employer should pay for your eye test anyway.
