secondary reference data/roll number

Hello,
I was trying to open an ISA and they are requesting a SRD.
As far as I could find out, it is either your card number or your ¨roll number¨.
I have never asked to provide my card number before, is this usual or safe?
I cannot find a ¨roll number¨anywhere either on my statements or online baking, and my account is with a building society.
Thanks for any help!

Who are you opening the account with and how are you planning to fund it?0
-
With UBL, basically put my savings in an ISA.0

I'm not familiar with their account opening process but most cash ISA providers will require a linked account to be nominated, which must be used for funds being moved in or out, and some will allow funding by debit card - check the terms for the specific product you're opening and it should clarify which funding options are supported.0

Am I correct in thinking they asking for details of a nominated account? I.e. they asking for sort code, account number and reference/roll number and you wish to use a building society account as your nominated account?
If so which building society are you trying to use?0 -
Well I provided al that, account number and sort code, I do not know what else they want and STILL do not know what is a secondary ref Nº or a roll number.

But which building society are you trying to use? If you tell me I can likely tell you whether a reference/roll number is necessary.Nikiya said:Well I provided al that, account number and sort code, I do not know what else they want and STILL do not know what is a secondary ref Nº or a roll number.
When making electronic payments into some building societies, e.g. Saffron, Skipton etc you need to quote the building society's sort code/account number (used by multiple customers) and a reference number which they give you. When funds are paid into this account they are allocated to a specific building society account based on the reference number.
Other building societies such as Nationwide give each account their own sort code/account number and do not require a reference/roll number, in which case you're free to either leave that box blank or put whatever reference you wish.

Some building societies like Nationwide and Nottingham don't need reference numbers because they don't have one big collection account with a bank; they get the bank to allocate a different 8 digit number for all customers' accounts instead. If you encounter this again with a different provider, just put a zero in the field.Nikiya said:Thanks, I am wih Nationwide, and the app allowed me to go ahead leaving that space blank, but it was not evident of explained.
But you're right, it's not made clear.
