HP Printer

Enclosed is the webchat which took over 2 days and 2 hours to get nowhere over a £50 printer.
The crux of the case is that after printing 3 colour documents in 2 months the Colour cartridge no longer works.
As you can see from the webchat Technical Services claimed the
printer works but the cartridges are "Setup Cartidges" and therefore
aren;t meant to last.
The printer has a 1year warranty but I realise the ink levels are usage dependant ; however 2 months is ridiculous.
Also bought this direct from your webpage shop which does not mention "Setup Cartidges" but does mention 3month free ink.
Which was also refused .
Under the Sales of Good Act 1979 states The Sale of Goods Act states that goods delivered or sold must be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. Fit for purpose means that the goods will provide the benefit or meet the purpose advertised by the seller.
I am sure you agree 2 months is not satisfactory I request a refund

HP+ and Instant Ink is offered as a 3 month trial followed by a subscription, did you subscribe?
All the cheaper printers clearly have SET UP cartridges, see the "What's in the box" section of Specifications.
All looks like it meets ML's SAD FART rules to me, you just misunderstood what HP were offering.5 -
Pretty much all printers come with cartridges which are lower capacity, not just an HP thing. Been that way for decades.
Its nothing like a power cord that last 1 week. If you buy a new car it doesn't come from the factory with a full tank, just enough to get you going.
Completely disagree that it is not of satisfactory quality or not fit for purpose.4 -
Usually the box makes it clear that the included cartridges are 'setup cartridges', as does the description on most websites I have just checked (which model and where did you buy it from?). You can't expect much else with a cheap £50 printer.
Buy yourself some cartridges or sign up to instant ink.
PS: you forget to include the webchatPast caring about first world problems.2 -
How long are the documents?0

Three or four full branded cartridges will cost more than £50.
The printer is probably sold at a loss, as the profit is in selling the cartridges.
So hence they only include starter cartridges with the printer.1 -

This and other nonsenses are why any IT expert will advise giving HP printers a very wide berth0 -
I've been very happy with my HP wireless laserjet printer.0

My HP Envy is 12 years old now and still going strong.
Each of my previous Canons (2) failed after about 4 years - hence why I bought the HP this time.Past caring about first world problems.2 -
A point to note, you cannot put setup cartridges in a printer that is already in use, they will not work.I bought cartridges from Amazon for full price. No indication they were setup cartridges, thought they were regular cartridges. Did not check the reviews of the seller which was my mistake. Did not need them for 6 months. When I put the cartridges in the printer, the printer did not work with a message along the lines of you cannot use setup cartridges. When I went to get a refund the 3rd party seller had disappeared from Amazon so no joy there. Can't remember if I asked Amazon for help. Anyway ended up buying more full price cartridges from HP which are working fine.So when buying replacement cartrdiges, make sure they are not setup cartridges.0

Sales of Goods Act 1979 hasn't applied to consumers for 10 years. Was replaced with the Consumer Rights Act 2015.Doesn't help you though, as everyone else has clarified why above.
