Notice to Keeper - Smart Parking

Hoping for some help with a parking charge that has just been delivered. It's for parking at a pub (england) last month for around 50 minutes, never visited before, got there in the dark and didn't notice any signage for paid parking at all. I did use the pub, annoyingly I paid in cash and apparently it looks like I could have had the parking removed from my bill had I noticed and paid to park so no incentive at all for me to avoid paying.
Notice includes a clear picture of my numberplate and was issued within 12 days. There is no popla number just a sentance saying that they will provide details on how to use it if I appeal and they reject.
I've not yet acknowledged the charge in any way, do I have grounds to appeal based on the fact I was a customer at the pub and the signage cannot have been sufficiently clear?
Thanks in advance

Have you asked the pub to get SP to cancel the charge - that's the first port of call.3

Nope, but you 100% win at POPLA by using the one-liner you must have read about when you searched for recent Smart Parking threads.davec2012 said:Hoping for some help with a parking charge that has just been delivered. Thank you, so provided the pub won't get it cancelled, I'll appeal to get popla number then use the one liner. Wasn't sure if I should acknowledge without the popla detailsCoupon-mad said:

"This is an appeal by the registered keeper - No driver details will be given. Please do NOT try the usual Group Nexus Trick of asking for driver details in order to get around the fact your NTK does not comply with POFA. As there is no keeper liability then liability cannot flow from the driver to the keeper and thus is an auto win @ POPLA. Please therefore cancel the notice or issue a POPLA code where you will auto withdraw"then use the POPLA appeal if the first appeal fails ....
No evidence of Landowner Authority - the operator is put to strict proof of full compliance with the BPA Code of Practiceorthe parking operator does not have a contract at this site to issue pcns"
