FIT tariff and reduced electricity bills. Can you get both ?
Options
Hi all,
have moved into a house that has solar panels which earn an income with EDF FIT tariff payments which I would like to retain.

The current supplier for gas and electricity is with OVO variable tariff which is quite high. Are we able to move to any energy supplier and would we get free/reduced electricity bills during the daytime or are we charged as normal as is this already accounted for in the FIT tariff payments? We’re not looking to move our generation or export FIT tariff.
I hope this makes sense
thanks for your help.

You’re free to move to any supplier and also leave your FIT payments with EDF. Making the best use of solar panels, if you don’t have a battery, takes a bit of effort. Making sure you use power when the panels are generating. You’re charged for what you use, irrespective of panels or not.0

You can change supplier and leave both FIT payments with EDF. However most suppliers give a better export rate to their own customers. So you might well be better off leaving the FIT Generation only with EDF and taking export with your new supplier.
Do you have smart meter? I think that's a prerequisite for any of the better export tariffs.1 -
Under the FIT scheme you receive a payment for the electricity you generate and, as standard, a payment for what you are deemed to have exported. You are deemed to have exported half of the electricity you generate but you can use anywhere between 0% and 100% of what you generate and it won't affect your FIT payment. Any solar electricity that you can use is effectively free.Reed0
