Life assurance company won't talk to me after parents death due to will

Hi there,
My Mum died over Christmas. Only real "estate" was about 20k in a bank and a life assurance policy from years ago with LV.
No idea how much that is worth but I have a letter from 1984 (!) saying it was £1000 ISH at the time.
My mum made a will when I was a kid in 1991 and it names two of her friends as executor. They're both ancient now and when I spoke to them about it, responses were along lines of "oh we can't be bothered with that stuff now".
Bank were great and released my mum's account to me.
LV on the other hand won't talk to me. I sent them the death certificate, my ID etc and copy of the will. They won't even tell me if the policy has anything meaningful to claim as there are executors named on my mum's will.
So I'm a bit stuck. Can anyone offer advice?

If probate is not required and there is a Will, then small amounts can be handled under the small estates claim process. This should still be handled by the executor and usually the declaration on the claim will require you to say that you are the executor (although you are not from what you say).

At this point in time, you have no legal right to that information. They want to make sure you have the legal right and the Will informs them of who has the legal right (the two friends in this case - until you get that changed).
