Help please with leaving Sky

Options
Hi guys. Some 5 years ago we switched from BT to Sky and went onto a package comprising:

"Sky Essentials TV'

"Sky broadband" (unlimited)

"Talk" (landline

At the time there were switching inducements but these have of course long disappeared.

As far as TV is concerned, we don't watch sport or any of the other subscription Sky channels. We never download films. We quite like the facility of stopping, RW and FF live TV, the ability to record and, as to programmes, we enjoy being able to access iPlayer, All4 etc. streaming.

Can anyone suggest our simplest route to obtaining like-for-like services and hopefully make a saving against the £65/month Sky is currently charging us?

Posted a similar query some time ago but didn't get very far!

    Something like this for Freeview:

The internet, well jump on a comparison website and see what you can get, though it'll probably be the faster internet with no phone line (there are providers that do Digital Voice, Sky being of them I believe, though other providers are just the internet only).

I use a youview box I got off eBay, I think it was £35 years ago

I stopped using hard disk recorders as I had two die and I watch everything from catch-up anyway (I got used to this when you didn't need a license from r BBC iPlayer). I wouldn't recommend the old youview boxes unless you are patient as they get overloaded and fast forwarding or rewinding will just dump you at the end or beginning. It works a bit better if you pause first, sometimes it crashes too.

If this one dies (or I get really frustrated ) then I'll look at an Amazon fire stick or Roku.

I miss the old white now TV box you could get for a tenner. I sold mine for £10 after they stopped working. I don't know why anyone wanted them.

OP, that sounds very expensive - have you asked Sky if they can do a better deal? We're with Virgin media and get something like Mega TV (includes Sky channels except Atlantic) but also have Sky Sports, Sky Cinema, kids pick, Netflix Standard, second box, 500mb BB, phone line and any time calls, and probably something else I've forgotten, and we only pay £70 a month. Think it's going up to £75 this month.

A quick look at VM has broadband and tv for around £35. We have 2 TiVo boxes which are very good. Not had any issues with VM myself. I would be surprised if there was a company out there that couldn't beat Sky's offer.
