Panic about partner's state pension - he never registered as self employed!!

This could be the most expensive mistake he's ever made! Earlier you mentioned he could maybe pay the past 6 years at class 2 - have you ever heard that happen? Do you think that's possible?molerat said:It is the total number of years held right back to day 1 but that does not really matter now as from the information provided his situation is pretty dire, he needs another 23 years to reach the full pension and it is going to cost a lot to get out of the situation. The £76.41 will be from that earlier employment, maybe 8 or so years. If he has no other pension and no savings then relying on pension credit may be his only available option but eligibility to that may come down to your situation if you are living together. https://www.gov.uk/pension-credit/eligibility0 -
Speaking to HMRC is the only way to find out I am afraid. 6 years currently goes back to 2018-19, from next week it is only to 2019-20.0

Just one more thing: it has Class 2 and Class 4 NI payments listed on his tax returns. I've emailed the accountant about this as I just find it hard to believe none of this was flagged?0

There is a line entry on his tax calculation for £1xx for Class 2 NI for some or all of those years? If so, be prepared to tell that to HMRC when you phone them.

Hello! I've just done a spot check and his tax returns list the Class 2 NCIs and the Class 4 NCIs. This is on the page that's headed up 'Tax Calculation Summary' and it says 'Total Tax', then Class 4 NCIs, and Class 2 NCIs - all with amounts next to them. I just can't understand how that's then a separate payment from the rest of the tax. Also, in the section that says 'Total tax' - it then says it includes things like the NCI taxes. Does all this ring a bell with you?QrizB said:missb_4 said:Just one more thing: it has Class 2 and Class 4 NI payments listed on his tax returns.
