There is a option "NO SUBSITUTES"

Always use that option for online orders. As if something is not in stock, you get what the person picking, or the system decides to give you. 👍
But wouldn’t that leave the OP in much the same position ie they receive some elements of the meal deal but don’t get the discount because the main course isn’t available?
You'd have to mark all items in the deal as no subs. So effectively you want the meal deal for £12 or no meal at all.

Do any of the supermarkets actually offer that as an option? There'd be other circumstances where it might be useful (e.g. a recipe with several essential ingredients - you want to have either all of them or nothing).
  • Thanks for your input everyone. It's really appreciated.

If anyone is in a similar situation, and the meal deal is important to you I'd be cautious. I've found the online shopping too inconvenient to bother. I usually use it to reduce busy supermarkets after work, or on my days off. If I lived close to one, I'd happily pop in for the odd bit missed on the online shop, but being rural no substitute for items like milk is a massive pain.
