Selling a car back to who sold it to me
                    Hey guys
long story short I brought a car privately which was the biggest mistake I ever make, was my first car and turned out it wasn’t road worthy. To my surprise seller is offering some not all but some of my money back. I got the new v5 thingy in my name when he sold me the car
I won’t be there my partner will when he comes to pick up the car he said he will pay me cash but I asked for bank transfer am I right to do this as I thought cash could be fake?
also there are so many dodgy parts of this whole nightmare that I had but will I need his full name and address and what do I need to do to make sure the car is transferred to him? Like can I do it online? What if he gives me fake name and address?

You know the address because you went there to buy the car. And you'd have it on the V5 as the previous keeper too.
You'll have to be more specific with "V5 thingy" - do you mean the new keeper slip? If so, then you can't transfer the car (registered keeper) back to him until you receive the full V5. It will have instructions on it how to do it either by post or online.
Cash or bank transfer are pretty similar risk/inconvenience - ie hardly any. I'd prefer bank transfer, only to save the trip to pay in the cash.0 -

V5Cs haven't had the previous keeper's name and address for nearly a decade.paul_c123 said:

As far as bank transfer vs cash - are we talking about £500 or £20k?2 -
Make sure V5 is transferred over to them. Can be done online when they pick car up.
Get partner to do it.
Don't let them fob you off saying they will do it, as odds on they will not & just sell car again without changing ownership.

V5C has NOTHING to do with ownership. It even says so on the front, in big block letters highlighted in red.born_again said:

But if he does not update it. OP is going to be the one getting all the stuff this person could do while it is still listed in OP name.Life in the slow lane1 -

Apologies, you're right. I'm used to seeing a V5 from a previous keeper, where their details would be on it but the car is in trade and it was done electronically (so you get to keep the entire V5 intact). The next keeper would be able to see the V5 including the previous keeper's name and address, if it wasn't blanked out eg for GDPR.Mildly_Miffed said:

The OP simply puts the car "into trade". That removes them as keeper, but doesn't add a new keeper.born_again said:

So can not go back into trade. It will need a change of owner on V5. Which is why OP needs to do it themselves online. To stop the person they are giving car back to not doing it & selling it to someone else... With all the protentional risks.
