Pixel 8a issues
I purchased a Pixel 8a phone at Christmas and during setup was prompted to set battery at 80% max charge to preserve the life of the battery which I did. I also read that every now and again the phone will over ride this setting and power up to 100% so as to ‘re calibrate’ the battery.
Well it charged to 80% for the first two months then went to 100% and has stuck on 100% charging no matter what I do. I’ve turned the setting off and back on and rebooted the phone many times but nothing will put it back to 80% charging, any ideas please.

Have you done
Settings > Battery > charging optimisation >
That should bring you to adaptive charging or charge to 80%

Yes I've done all that but it continues to always charge to 100%Emmia said:Have you done

There's a Reddit post that seems to be relevant - might be the phone trying to recalibrate after the March "feature update".
Not my phone so haven't looked in any depth

During the initial optimisation process, it needs to remain on charge after 100% until the battery fully calibrates. That could take up to an hour. When it completes calibration, a shield appears over the battery icon and you can remove the charger. It should then start to limit charging to 80%, except for occasional calibration.
PS: As flaneurs_lobster suggests, this change has come about as a result of the March update.3 -
How low have you let it discharge? Try letting it go below 20% once before letting it do a full charge.1

That may not be necessary in this case. It seems to be the lack of info about the duration of the calibration period after reaching 100% that is catching users out. But certainly something trickydicky14 could try if still having issues.400ixl said:How low have you let it discharge? Try letting it go below 20% once before letting it do a full charge.2 -
Thanks dc scotland, I did as you said, run it up to 100% and left it on charge for over an hour and yes I got a shield over the battery and it's reading 80% so it looks good to go.dc_scotland said:During the initial optimisation process, it needs to remain on charge after 100% until the battery fully calibrates.
