Nationwide being crafty

I've just opened a new NationwideFlex account. They're offering £175 if you switch to them by 31st March, so I opened a new account this morning. Except that the earliest date I was offered to switch was 8th April so no windfall for me! I carried on anyway because I'm really unhappy with my bank of many years, Santander.

1) They are not being crafty, that's how much notice is needed to switch.
2) You have misunderstood the offer terms, as long as you have opened the account by 31 March and complete the switch within 28 days you will qualify (if you also meet the other conditions)7 -
CASS switches always take at least 7 working days. That's just how the process works. But as above, all you need to do is open an account before 31st and the switch can complete at a later date (within 28 days).3

I'm not a fan of Nationwide but they clearly state that you have 28 days to complete the switch so you'll still get the bonus:
