From my understanding the network or manufacturer can blacklist the phone, but that won't take effect until someone tries to connect it to a network. I'm not sure whether that is uk only either.
I don't think there is any way they can track a phone in a box.0 -
Court of Justice rules in favour of Commission decision prohibiting Hutchison 3G (Three) / Telefónica (O2) merger.savergrant said:"After numerous calls and hassle with my mobile phone company (O2) to get roaming on one of our households mobiles, O2 was supposed to send me my updated contract details via DPD yesterday. The parcel arrived whilst I was working from home"
Is it just me that doesn't understand why updated contract details needs to come in a parcel?
What does your online account show?
As to the despatch note, where did it say it came from?
And as far as '3 mobile and O2 have joined forces' that's a new one on me, 3's merger with Vodafone is approved so why would 3 be working with o2 and supplying each other's sims?
Is there any intermediary involved?
Which was back in 2015.

Which is why 02 merged with Virgin.
Seems like the supposed 02 call, was from a 3rd party & OP now has been moved to 3 network.Life in the slow lane0 -
Except that whoever sent the parcel rang to say the wrong thing had been despatched.born_again said:

Op also said that they initiated the changes to the contract because of issues getting roaming on one phone. If it is a 3rd party it would certainly fit if the contract with three solved the roaming issue.
Thanks for the clarification, although I think it is unlikely that three were actively promoting o2 sims before the decision to block their merger, or that it is accurate to say they have 'joined forces' which would presumably be unlawful given the reasons for blocking the proposed merger. So I still don't understand how buttercheese received an o2 sim from three 'a couple of years ago', or who was charging them for it.0 -
Asking Feelingharrassed97 what exactly were you expecting to find inside the parcel?
And have you at any stage been cold-called 'about your o2 contract'?
The other thing worth checking is whether the parcel label gives the weight of the parcel, if it does check the weight of what you received against that (a box with a phone in should weigh a lot more than a box with just a couple of sims in it)0 -
It looks as though the potential merger was blocked in 2016, but the decision to block it challenged in 2020, before the initial decision was ruled lawful in ECJ in 2023. However by 2020 o2 was already involved in talks with virgin media so the o2 and three deal was long dead. So the chances of o2 customers receiving 3 sims or vice versa seems pretty remote, before 2016...between 2016 and 2020, or after 2020.born_again said:
