Postage Refunded if you do not use the postage label

Received this message today and was not sure if it had been covered before?

"We issued you a refund for the postage cost of this order.
When you purchased this item, you also paid for the postage. However, the postage label wasn’t used, so we’re refunding the postage cost of £3.71. "

The seller lived on an island and could not use the postage option that ebay put as default, seller contacted me and I said
use whatever postage option you prefer I was not in a rush for the item. Item arrived fairly quickly so left feedback hoping
that would help release the sellers funds faster?  Seller did not contact me again other than a thanks for letting them know
it arrived and that feedback was left.  1 month later I get the postage refund message.

Showing in Paypal but no additional balance which I thought would normally happen. I will check again and contact the
seller to F&F the money back to them.

That's interesting news, I wonder what communication the seller had with ebay.
I didn't realise that ebay still accepted PayPal but I would expect ebay to refund the original payment method not credit it to your ebay balance. If you paid by credit card from PayPal I would expect PayPal to refund it to the card too.

Buyers can still pay via PayPal on managed payments, seller though doesn’t know how the original payment was actually made. I often still use PayPal when buying on eBay, but the payment now shows as being made to eBay and doesn’t show the seller details at all.

Creature of habit and still use paypal mainly. Before all the managed payments etc. ebay/paypal refunds would show as a positive
balance when I log into paypal. Just checked and still no funds in either paypal or my bank. Will have to keep checking.

Not sure if the seller contacted ebay?  They messaged me stating they could not use the postage label ebay provided because
it was a drop off shop which they did not have on their island. I was not fussed how it arrived and they seemed happy to post
it with whatever was convenient to them.
