I'm currently on standard variable rate with ovo. So I can fix

When will be the best time to do so? Knowing prices are going to increase

You say that prices are going to increase, but that is only the case with the standard variable. Fixes have actually come down recently reflecting falling wholesale prices, and this fall (unless dramatically reversed in the next few weeks) will feed through to the SVR in July. Beyond that, no one knows what the future holds. Fixing now will save straight away against the SVR, and perhaps the best advice is to go with a supplier who will not charge exit fees on a fix - either not at all or the fees are waived if you switch to a new fix with the same supplier. Oh and if transferring to a new supplier see if you can get cashback by going via one of the big cashback sites or via Cheap Energy Club, or one or two suppliers have schemes where you can use a referral code from an existing customer and both you and they get some cashback or other benefit.

As above - if you can find a fix where the rates are lower than what you are paying then fix, as long as you can leave without penalty or can switch to another fix within the same company, you can't really lose out. Prices go up next week, but will probably come down in July, and probably go up again October. Might go the other way. A fix is a bit of a gamble which is why you need the no exit fee if you can find one. We fixed in August for 12 months with BG as they were cheapest for us, I've just switched the electricity to another of their fixes as its cheaper, but the gas isn't.

I find that 1130am is the best time, I’m awake and fully cognitive, and haven’t had a chance to go to the pub and dull my senses especially with the bloke who thinks he knows everything and spouts off with the latest conspiracy theory.

Seriously though, if anyone one here knows they would be very rich, you have to go with your appetite for risk, and be prepared to be disappointed. The most important factor for me is to take a tariff which comes without exit fees.
