Maintenance final payment

Think I'd be telling mum to go swivel and cut all contact off with her now - sounds like she's stopped you seeing your son for 7 or 8 years and he's now an adult, with your obligation to pay her anything ending in August - why maintain any contact at all? Sounds like she's just vindicative and manipulative - particularly if she's still trying to trick you into paying child maintainance.

Ian1246, she is a narcissist, but she won't give me my boys number. He's to scared to contact me because of her control, one day he might message me on FB or something.
Thanks for your advice.

Thanks enpointe,
What a 3 level qualification entry?
Are you saying a 3year teaching degree does not require me to pay child maintenance as he's 18 and my last payment is august this year.?

Level 3 is A levels or equivalent. Higher qualification than GCSEs lower than degree. Usually what you study at school sixth form/ sixth form college or FE college. Eg my 2 both went to a Further education college and did a course in a dedicated subject (IT/Performing arts) between the ages of 16-18 (after they finished GCSEs and before going to Uni).Billyd0 said:Thanks enpointe,

You do NOT have to pay child maintainance for a child studying for a degree. Yes you pay CM until the end of August and that's when his Mum will stop receiving Child benefit (and any other child related benefits for him) and then you no longer need to pay maintainance.2 -
Thanks for explaning this before i had chance to get back to the threadSpendless said: <snipped>
" full time education" when it refers to child benefit and Maintainance is almost universally a reference to 'school' level education including FE college Level 2 and Level 3 course and NOT University courses leading to Level 4/5/6/7 terminal qualifications2 -
Thanks spend less and enpointe,
It's not the fact of paying her, I'll keep these payments I stop in August in an account for him. This is because over the last 6 years since 12yrs old she has manipulated him into his frailties playing on negative things, narcissist's do that, sadly. Si if I'm lucky he will get older and maybe meet someone who questions why he doesn't have any contact with me. And reaches out, but I still think he won't because of his mum's controlling manipulative personality, she might hate me+ I still to this day don't know why it ended) oh well, that's my dream, to here those amazing words, ....hello dad, and a cuddle. But till then I'll still be here for him.
Thanks again to all the people in here who have helped me.
Thank you.

Back to your original question, in simple terms University education (or education on a greater level than 'A' levels for example) is classed as "Higher Education" not "Further Education". It may still be Full time (or not) but this distinction exempts you from being forced to pay/contribute (although you can voluntary do so if you wish).Billyd0 said:Thanks spend less and enpointe,

The parent with care can apply, prior to them turning 18, for an extension whilst at University but I personally find this discriminating against the absent parent as you cannot force parents within a normal household to contribute to their educational costs going forward. Although my parents were willing to help, I maintained a regular job for the 4 years during the holiday periods working 12 hour nights, 7 days a weeks to fund it but I suppose everyone's drive and circumstances are different.PV total 19.8 kW system:
