Online order was clearly ex-display - can I reject it as "not as described"?

I bought a bike carrier from an online supplier which also has physical stores. When it arrived, it had clearly been out of the box, was badly repacked and had a store price label stuck on it. There are also faint tyre marks in the channels where a bike rests.
I want to reject it and have the retailer pay for the return as it's not as described, and arguably is second hand. Can I do this, as it wasn't advertised as ex-display?

Yes, you can. You can return an online purchase for a full refund within 14 days of receipt in most circumstances, and the fact it's clearly been "used" makes it a given.
I suspect that a previous customer has ordered it, tried it out, realised it's not for them and has returned it within 14 days. Or more cynically, used it for the one trip they needed it for in those 14 days, and returned it.0 -
Many thanks for that. Even if it hadn't been used, the fact that it was ex-display and not pointed out as such means that it's not as described etc. The company has just agreed to refund and arrange a pickup, which is good news.2

It can also be that someone else ordered it and then cancelled in the 14 days after deciding it wasnt for them and hence they poorly packed it back in the box. If its a small business they may not have the luxury of seperate stock for the shop and online but take web orders off the shelf if there are none in the stock room1
