Is my travel insurance likely to cover cancelling as my friend can no longer travel?

I booked a cruise holiday with a good friend around a year ago and we are due to travel at the end of May for my special birthday.  However, her husband has just found out he urgently needs serious heart surgery and she will be unable to travel - he's likely to have just had or be just about to have surgery around the time of our trip and she naturally doesn't want to leave him for two weeks in either case.  
We insured our trip separately (which I realise may have been a mistake), as I just added cruise cover to the renewal of my annual travel policy.  Does anyone have any insight as to whether my insurance is likely to payout?

The majority of policies will not cover you as the ill person is neither insured on your policy nor are they travelling with you. 

A small minority of policies do cover cancellation if someone you are travelling with has had to cancel for one of the reasons that you yourself would have been insured for had the tables been reversed.
