Starting point would seem to be to check out the passport of.uk website, which answers all your questions.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

As you have already been issued with a passport, you will be requesting a Renewal.
Yes you can do it online very easily. You will need to supply a digital photo, one from a booth with a code is best, and enter your old passport number. You should not need anyone to sign anything but there is a list of accepted verifying professions available. Assuming you still look like you and haven't had too many "tweakments" to your face they should recognise you from your orginal photo. https://www.gov.uk/renew-adult-passport
I did mine recently and had a new passport within a week!!!! Was utterly gobsmacked!

As above - definitely pay the (£12 ish) to get a proper one done in a booth - most large supermarkets have them and some retail shops like Boots.  It is far easier.  I tried to save money by taking my own photo and uploading it; 3 attempts later and a lot of waiting for it to be approved,  it was still saying it doesn't meet their standards. I got one done in a booth and within 2 minutes it was all done

Brilliant! Thanks so much for that ~ I really could make sense of the guidelines of wether it would be a new application or not as it’s been out of date since 2010, I’m not very adventurous 😅💖

Thanks for that! That’s very reassuring, I’m hoping to go to Dublin with my 86 year old dad, 1st trip for him on his new Irish passport, and though strictly I guess I don’t need one, I thought I’d better get one just to make it al official, don’t want him striding through customs and me stopped on the border 😅
