Used car warranty - Do I have any options?

Good evening,
We purchased a 2019 used car for ~£16k in December and within 3 months the headlight has completely stopped working. Meaning we can't legally drive the car.
I messaged the used car dealer to inform them and they told me I can take it to any local garage (the dealer is 250 miles away) to have it checked out for a potential warranty claim, but they will not pay for any diagnostics. I have now had it looked at and the garage have quoted a potential new headlight unit for ~£1700, but to confirm it they need to remove the bumper and inspect further which will cost £240.
The used car dealer were informed and have now told me that they assumed I had taken out an extended warranty and because I hadn't, their 3 month 'return to base' warranty does not cover headlights because they worked at the point of sale.
Would I be right in thinking a serious defect that renders the car undriveable within the first 3 months should be sorted by them?
Thank you for your time.

So not just a bulb? Has the connection to light been checked? I'm struggling to see why you need a whole new headlight. A headlight is a carrier, reflector and lens for the bulbs. Unless of course it is LED?

Used car warranties are there to distract you from your consumer rights. If something fails within 6 months of purchase, then it's assumed to be faulty at the time of sale unless the retailer can show otherwise. That means that the retailer, not any warranty company, is responsible for fixing it.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
