Best way to reinforce gas pipe?

We had our front garden dug up to lay a driveway and we came across a gas pipe whicj is quite shallow. SGN came out and advised we can sink it or off the record, reinforce it before paving over. I think what we will do is create an extra step over it but we want to ensure it’s reinforced.
whats the best tubing and sand to use for this?

Are you going to disconnect the pipe and put it inside some tubing?

Get some 75 x75 mm cable trunking, the more robust the better, put lid underneath the pipe then snap fit the trunking. Then but some spacers underneath to lift it up slightly and encapsulate with concrete. When concrete has set put Gas Pipe Marking Tape on route and backfill.
When you get your driveway done mark the kerbstones or block paviors by etching to show routes of whatever services run under it.1 -

It’s metal piping. We are not disconnecting it, just wanted to know the best way to reinforce/keep it safe before laying concrete on it. We have been advised to tube it and use sand to compound itgrumpy_codger said:

Are you going to disconnect the pipe and put it inside some tubing? If it's metal, you are likely to have it replaced with plastic sooner or later. If you don't want your driveway to get dug up, make the trunking neatly, possibly leave thick synthetic rope inside. That said, I think sometimes they lay a new plastic pipe inside the old steel one.
