Carhire in Ireland

Me and my boyfriend are off to Ireland in two weeks for £35 each for flights and hotel thanks to Money Saving Expert but we'd like to book a car for the 5 days we're there. Does anyone know of a way we can reduce the £600-odd 'deposit' they take at the beginning of the hire, as neither of us have enough money to sub the payment!

Ta lovvies.

Helen

Why not try a search site lik
    https://www.moneysupermarket.com
pretty sure there are others too.

I recently found budget was the cheapest (for belfast - £44 for 2 days) and I don't think there was any deposit required.

When it does the search it shows you a certain number of standard features and one of them was whether a deposit was required.
Obviously check the other factors as well and bear in mind that I think this was cheapest for a single driver and not necessarily the cheapest for 2.

I think this is a pretty god way of searching without doing a lot of legwork yourself.
  • Thank you Lisyloo. The problem is that I'm 24 and they seem to want to charge me more despite having had a license for 6 years and no claims in all that time. And there still seems to be the 'full excess' deposit which is ugly big.

I'd rather leave them my passport than pay them for damages I haven't even made yet!

Will they not accept a credit card for this?
