Car Insurance - estimated mileage - query

My wife's car insurance policy is with Churchill. The policy includes reference to an estimated mileage - a mileage which she chose when initially seeking a quote. That estimate has now been exceeded with another month of the term yet to run. I am concerned that should my wife need to make a claim before the end of the current term the fact she has exceeded the estimated mileage could present a hurdle. I appreciate that she could amend the terms of her policy effectively mid-term but at a cost(including a flat rate admin fee). 

Any thoughts/experiences out there regarding the implications of being in excess of the estimated mileage should it be necessary to make a claim?

Can you inform them online rather than via their contact centre? Some insurers charge less in fees if you can self serve online. 

Churchill currently ask you to estimate your mileage to the nearest 1,000 miles... so what did you declare and what is likely the real figure? Lets assume you estimate 8,000 and your now likely to be doing 8,400 then that technically is still 8,000 to the nearest 1,000 and it is supposed to be an estimate. 

I have known there to be issues but there they had declared 4,000 miles and had done 20,000 because of a change in job which they also hadn't told the insurer about.

All down to how many miles more.  A few hundred over a declared 10,000 no issue, 10,000 more when you declare 5,000 that will be a problem.
