Home insurance with lodgers

I have paid for AD cover for many years without ever using it. Comments in another thread made me think about not renewing it, as most of the potential accidents would not cost that much to put right. Plus there is an excess and I would lose some no claims discount.1404 said:What on earth is the point of insurance without accidental damage cover or cover for lodgers when you have declared that you have two of them. Ridiculous.
So I am coming to the conclusion that I have been wasting money on being overinsured with having this cover.0 -

That's also true. My excess is £600, so it would have to be a very expensive accident (destruction of an entire kitchen or floorboards of a room) to make it worthwhile.

Today I discovered that Lloyds refuse you home emergency if you have a lodger. I find this quite weird, and unhelpful. I had to call them up after doing the quote online because the policy booklet doesn't even mention them, but was told that they do cover lodgers within the main policy. It seems as though insurers are making life even more difficult as well as expensive. Because of the jump in price at renewal I'm currently wading through trying to find cheaper cover but at the moment it is looking like I'll have to stay where I am if I want home emergency cover.0

By increasing my excess (£100 to £200), I got a premium cheaper than last year's and by going on line instead of by phone, may have got an even cheaper premium. This was with Lloydsjuliestar said:Today I discovered that Lloyds refuse you home emergency if you have a lodger. I find this quite weird, and unhelpful.
