Car iinsurance no claims bonus

Hi all

Im currently with LV and they want to put up my car insurance up just over 10% (i always pay this in one go to save money).

Ive shopped about and can get a btter deal.

The only issue is my proof of no claims for LV stops at 9 years as this is the maximum they allow.

Ive scoured the ncb document of proof and it lists nothing but the max they allow.  Im 99% sure i have years more but i dont know how to check or get the proof?

I noticed on one of the camparison sites you can put you have up to 20 years no claims bonus so i need to know exactly what i have.

Could somoene please help me?

I doubt that it will make any difference whether you claim 9 years or 20 years - 9 years seems to be the industry 'norm'.

Most insurers give their maximum NCD at 5 years, those that give maximum at 9 years dont give any bigger discount typically, they just take more time to get to it.

Never heard of anyone giving a bigger discount for over 9 years, one or two people claim they've been offered a bigger discount but then "couldn't remember" who it was to be able to validate it.

Its a long known problem for those offering longer periods, many insurers used to write 5+ years NCD on their letters, and so that offer it usually are the best ones to advise you on how to piece together the evidence because their competitors dont record it.

Obviously this one is a bit different because you can't remember... when did you move to LV? Have you checked the insurer you were with the year before to see what NCD they had you holding?
  • Ive been with them for two-three years i think.  if it doesnt seem to make any difference if i have over 9 then it seems pointless trying to find my old info to prove its more.
Ill stick with the 9 on the comparison website as thats what i have proof for.

Thank you all for your time in commenting.  Its appreciated :)
