Life insurance with mental health issues.

Hello,

I'm trying to find life insurance for myself, but I have mental health issues which I've been upfront with to the insurance companies and brokers, but it seems nobody will insure me.

I have just purchased a house and I would like a small life insurance policy that will cover my mortgage should I pass away.

Are there any companies out there that deal with this?

I don't mind paying a small premium for this cover, like I do with travel insurance.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Do you need insurance? You mention 'I' rather than 'we', if this implies you don't currently have dependents then I would consider if you really need insurance to cover the mortgage if you were no longer around.

You just need to speak to a good broker, and do so before you get declines from anyone else as many insurers won't entertain another broker after they have already declined via one or from a direct customer. Good brokers will know insurers positions and have the ability to speak to technical teams about your case before actually submitting an application.

My broker has unfortunately retired but they turned a "you're uninsurable" into a set of quotes with relatively modest price uplifts. A reasonable start would be to look at the ones recommended by Mind https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/guides-to-support-and-services/insurance-cover-and-mental-health/specialist-insurers-for-pre-existing-conditions/ but look at the websites and check if they are a whole of market broker before applying.

I got insurance off legal and general. I applied and was rejected and then applied a year later. I pay double what my husband pays and suicide is not covered. I also have epilepsy so that would increase my premium too.
