    Ahh, you're right, sorry -- it would appear that the book is also called 'The Golden Compass' in the US which will teach me for trusting amazon.com! ;)

    Er, I'm pretty sure number 43 is wrong -- Matthew d'Ancona was born in 1968, which doesn't really fit the "still loved by film-makers 100 years on" part... :confused:

    Like you I found Auden but couldn't get a connection and I don't think 43 is correct as it doesn't tie in with 1907 - I've just spent ages looking
