Travel insurance advice for a family

Hi...
I am searching for a travel insurance and I decided not to buy gadget cover, as most insurers request proof of purchase and other details that I don't have most of them. I don't have all the reciepts. Some gadgets are gifts as well.
So I am buying the insurance mainly to cover flights cancellation, falling ill abroad, and maybe luggage loss.
My question is how do I prove the value or the content of a lost luggage? Our luggages contain clothes, perfumes, beard shaver, maybe a watch or two of my wife. The kids luggage is mainly clothes.
The luggage value could be around let's say £300. How the insurer deals with such a claim?
I never had a travel insurance so any general advice as well before I buy a policy is highly appreciated. Thank you

I don't know if this would work. But what I do, as I am packing my suitcase, I have it all laid out on the Living Room Floor and take photographs of it. Then a final photo just before I close the lid!
In my mind, I have the idea that will help them do an assessment of value. (None of my stuff is expensive. I do have retail on-line receipts for some of it, like fleeces and jackets.)1 -
Never put jewellery in hold luggage. As for how to value, and prove value of, contents is a difficult one. I don't know anybody who retains receipts for every item of clothing they have ever bought.1

it will come down to what is being claimed for
the general person may have around £1000 in luggage for a holiday
if you start claiming for 5-10k they are going to want receipts and proof
If you claimed for £500 they are likely to just pay it

Insurers will ask for receipts, if you have any, photos of you wearing the items, packaging, instruction manuals etc. A lot comes down to the credibility of the story... you're going for a 3 day holiday to a campsite in northern France bought using coupons from a newspaper and £25pp. You claim your Rimowa suitcase was stolen which contained 4 bespoke suits from Huntsman, 6 pairs of Edward Green shoes, 2 rolexes and several bottles of Rojas Perfumes. They are going to decline it or they are going to pass it to counter fraud.
On the flip side you're away at an expensive hotel for 2 weeks and claim your Slazenger suitcase that had 5 M&S T-shirts, some Primark flip-flops, a Polo pair of shorts and Tesco Jeans. Probably wouldn't even bother asking for proof beyond the report to the local police or airline depending on how it went missing.
Note that travel insurance typically isnt new for old so depreciation will be applied to the ticket price. If you have things of more material value you may want to check your home insurance as many offer Personal Possessions cover on a world wide basis and therefore payout full price (other than clothes typically)1
