Faulty Sofa Compensation

Options
Hi, I purchased 2 sofas from what I thought was a great shop, reviews are brilliant.  I hate to complain but the order was mucked up and I had to chase for a few weeks until it was put right, so it was delayed 3 months.  Anyway get both sofas and both have problems, where they haven't been made properly - so upsetting when spending so much money.

They asked for an independent company to come out who recommended we have new sofas, get a call from the company who offer a little bit of compensation or new sofas.

My question is, I don't mind taking the compensation but is there a certain percentage they should/can give???

There is no formula, they could simply refund you and that's that.

How much would you think reasonable, and how does that compare to the purchase price of the two sofas?

You could start by considering the cost of them having to collect and deliver two sofas.  That's got to be a couple of hundred quid for a start.

That's my thinking too, they are offering 20% of the cost of both sofas at the moment

Both sofas have not just one fault, there's multiple faults

How long is it since you received them?

I told them the problems within a week of receiving them, they arrived at different times due to the order being wrong
  • Hello OP

What is the timeframe between the second sofa being delivered and now?

If less than 30 days you can exercise the short term right to reject for a full refund.

If more than 30 days they can replace or repair within a reasonable time, if they don't you can either reject for a refund, accept a price reduction.

If you accept a price reduction and later the issues get worse there would be no further remedy (you may have further remedy if something else unrelated happens).

In terms of amount for a price reduction it should be the difference between what was promised ad what was supplied which probably isn't easy to say in such a situation so it's a case of negotiate best you can if that's the option you wish to go for. :)

If you accept the compensation, however much you might agree, then you will still have to live with the faulty sofas.

Given there is a report confirming the sofas are incorrect, the faults must be relatively substantial.  If this were me, I think I'd either go for the replacement sofas or a full refund.

What are the nature of the faults?  How do the faults affect the use of the sofa?
