British Gas is giving its customers the chance to win free electricity for an entire year by switching off and saving energy this Earth Hour.
On Saturday, 22nd March, between 8:30pm and 9:30pm, millions across the UK will take part in the global movement by turning off their lights to reduce energy consumption and promote sustainability. To encourage even greater action, British Gas is rewarding 10 of its PeakSave customers who reduce their electricity usage during the hour with free electricity for a year, based on the average yearly electricity cost projection.
More people than ever are looking for smarter ways to use energy to reduce their environmental impact. Research from British Gas reveals that Brits are increasingly focused on sustainability, and 8 in 10 homeowners are willing to make changes around their homes to lessen their carbon footprint
John Evans, Commercial Director at British Gas, says: “Earth Hour is a powerful reminder that small actions can make a difference- not only to the environment but for 10 lucky PeakSavers who can win free electricity for a year. To be entered into a prize draw to win free electricity, our PeakSavers just need to use less electricity during Earth Hour than they usually would during this time.”
How to take part:
- Be a PeakSave customer with a working smart meter
- Use a little less electricity between 8:30pm and 9:30pm on Saturday, 22nd March 2025 and you will be automatically entered into the prize draw
- 10 customers who have made any reduction, big or small, (compared to their usual consumption at this time) will receive £926, covering the average annual electricity cost
Beyond Earth Hour, British Gas continues to support customers with practical ways to save energy, from smart home solutions to expert advice on cutting consumption without compromising on comfort. Those signed up with British Gas’ PeakSave scheme will receive half price electricity when they shift their energy usage to the off-peak hours between 11am and 4pm on a Sunday. Over 800,000 people have saved more than £20m to date as a nation through the scheme.
