Smart meter

I am trying to obtain the dimensions of a smart meter that will be used by Octopus - my present meter is no longer able to be read - no digits! There seems to be a question as to whether the new smart meter will fit in space of present meter location. Any help appreciated.

All meters are different sizes and shapes, there is no standard size,
Is your meter board very cramped with time switch, fuses, whatever?

Different types of meter vary a bit in their dimensions, and there is usually a communications hub (CH) fitted on top of it. General guidance from the government gives the following minimum spacing for meters in new builds; how does what you have available differ from this?

This makes for a straightforward installation, but a determined engineer will often be able to fit a meter into a smaller space. It's also possible to locate the CH up to a meter or so away from the meter itself, saving a bit of the 350mm height requirement. The choice of meter may sometimes depend on what the engineer happens to have in his van.

If you post a photo of your meter backboard with all its stuff, someone may have ideas. Please say where you live, as well, because different equipment is installed in different parts of the country. The first part of your postcode is close enough.

You don't say if it's gas or electricity. Our electricity smart meter, fitted for Octopus, is 130mm wide and 175mm tall. That includes the communications hub that's piggybacked onto the actual meter.

You don't need help. just get an appointment and the installer will tell you if he can fit one or not when he turns up.

We had new Smart Meters fitted by Octopus in the last month.

Our gas meter is 32cm tall x 24cm wide x 15cm deep. (About half the height is the regulator which only takes up half the width).

     Our electricty meter is 20cm tallk x 13cm wide x 7cm deep.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.
