Credit card application

I want to apply for a travel credit card for 0% transaction fees but am getting turned down on the soft application. My credit score is very high and I have an Amex card I’ve used for years. My personal earnings are £10k and I’ve put that I don’t pay rent or have any dependants. I live with my partner (and kids).  He is the higher earner but all bills etc are in my name as I run the household. If I put our joint income on the form it accepts me. If I do this as an actual application would it then reject me after a full check as my personal income is much lower? And would that mean I have to open a 0% foreign transaction fee bank account instead?

Depends on your appetite for Fraud - the likelihood is that you won't get picked up, but should you start to fail to make payments then it could be picked up

If you are married, it's a bit different for joint income than just as a partner

Your income is your income, fudging it is likely to be seen as fraud by the systems they use (ignoring the actual potential for fraud of lying about your income).

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I am guessing your income of £10k and the fact you already have an Amex with a credit limit are denying your applications. I don't know the limit on your Amex, but if any other credit provider gave you a card, they would have serious concerns about you paying back what you owe. If you want the travel card, ditch your Amex, wait a few months for the cancellation to show up on your credit reports and then apply for a travel card.
It depends what you want more: Whatever you get from Amex or fx fee free spending.
As an aside, Amex no longer considers household income, they only consider your sole income. Also the minimum income for card applications is £20k; the minimum incoeme for their premium cards is £35k.
If Amex work out your income is £10k don't be surprised if they cancel your card. And by making applications stating your income is £10k is the kind of information that is distributed to all credit card providers.
Edited to add: fudging your income is the kind of information that is passed to all financial providers including banks. That may cause more problems than not being able to get a fx fee free card.
