BOXT Installers

Do the likes of BOXT, iHeat, etc use their own installers or do they work through local companies?

I've been quoted £2500 from BOXT for a Worcester Bosch 4000 30kW which also comes with a free Hive.mini, they'll also do a full Magnacleanse system flush for an extra £200. Going direct to Worcester Bosch would cost a hundred quid more but they include their own Easycontrol thermostat control which I'd actually prefer over the Hive. They don't, however offer any type of full system flush other than a standard chemical flush but if they use a local installer then I can at least see if they too would do a Magna cleanse.

Tbh, that doesn't really make it clear whether they employ their own local installers working under the "BOXT" badge or subcontract to local companies.

Also, adding to the confusion I'm able to specify, get a price and book an installation direct with Worcester Bosch but when I enquired about extra services the guy on the chat said WB don't sell boilers to the public but we can put you in touch with local, accredited suppliers for a quote.

I had a local(ish) guy who I assume was a sole trader to do my install. He gave me his card so that I could call him for the annual service.
Personally, I wouldn't use a Hive as it will only do basic on/off control, no smart modulation. The EasyControl talks EMS, so has better control over what temperature the boiler is running at - This will make a noticeable difference to boiler efficiency.
I have a Viessmann that uses OpenTherm (similar to the WB EMS), and the smart thermostat will set a flow temperature anywhere between 40°C and 60°C (rarely does it go above 55°C). This ensures that the boiler is running well in to condensing mode and I'm getting 94-96% efficiency out of it. To make the most of lower flow temperatures, the radiators need to be appropriately sized (most of mine are some 50% larger than the online calculators suggest).

Before you commit to a new gas boiler, have you considered a heat pump ?
With the £7500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, installation costs should be similar. And once properly tuned, running costs will be comparable (could even be cheaper on the right tariff).

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

I'm not sure I would worry about the magnacleanse flush. Building Regulations and the Manufacturers own warranty require the existing system to be cleaned when installing a new boiler, so if Worcester are happy to supply and fit the boiler with their normal warranty, you should be fine. Some plumbers don't recommend doing a full flush especially on a vented system that is being converted to pressurised as the larger pipes are more prone to leaking.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Worcester fastrack is a packaged simplified service. Given the info above I would go with that personally as long as it's a combi and unless you have reason to believe you have a very dirty system it have non working radiators. You will get a Worcester magnetic filter

I used Worcester fast track. They sub it out to local installers. Their price was a few hundred cheaper than Boxt and included the Easycontrol for free.

I had an 8000 30kw installed and it cost £2700 a couple of years ago.
