Morning all, thanks for starting today's thread @Gers. I'm a night owl so, unless I start to suffer with insomnia, I'll never be the one to make the first post!
Today's weather is pretty much the same as yesterday with highs of 17 deg, a light breeze and no rain but the sun is likely to be be more of a hazy affair. It's a shame that tomorrow we'll be back to what's more normal for the time of year.
As planned, I had a walk to the SM yesterday, mainly for fruit, yogurt and eggs, and walked home too as I just missed the bus back. It's always cold in the chilled aisles but the whole store was absolutely freezing and it was warmer outside than in. I thought maybe they'd turned up the air con too much but no, apparently the heating wasn't working! Once home, I had a welcome cuppa while I put the shopping away and then just chilled for the rest of the day. It seems we have quite a few keen readers among us; when I choose a book I sometimes go for a known author but more often than not it's the blurb on the back that grabs me. I've just finished The Complaints by Ian Rankin and have put it on one side for DS. The next one on the reading pile is called Spandau Phoenix by Greg Iles, 709 pages to keep me out of mischief.
It being Friday, there's the usual banking and admin stuff to do followed by a quick tidy round. The energy bill arrived in my Inbox this morning - down £49 on last month. I've had the rent and phone/broadband bills (up obviously) but am still waiting on the ones for CT and water. Still no response on my Pension Credit application either. The paint samples I ordered will be arriving at lunchtime and the Hobbycraft stuff tomorrow - that will be my weekend sorted.
Tea tonight is a fish meal, not sure what kind but there's plenty of choice in the freezer.
@camelot - Commiserations on the car bill. Yes, this Housing Manager is definitely a keeper and makes a point of visiting all the tenants in his area at least once a year, no mean feat as it's a large area to cover.
@remmie - I must be a grumpy old woman too - what is it about nice weather that makes people open their windows wide so everyone in the street can hear their choice of music?
Have a good day and enjoy your weekend whatever you're planning. Take care, healing thoughts for the Poodles. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.10 -

Morning all
Not quite so sunny here today and a bit overcast, it’s cooler too which is my fault as I’ve turned my heating off for the summer so what’s the betting we get another cold spell now 🙄
When I took the dogs out yesterday it was so warm I had to take my jumper off I was walking in a t-shirt (and trousers obviously) and it was so lovely and warm.
Dinner tonight is a new to me recipe called ‘marry me chicken’ I saw a video of someone making it and it looks delicious so thought I would try it, I shall report back.
Few jobs to do around the house and then a rest this afternoon as I’ve not been sleeping well again.
Have good days all and take care xx9 -
Good morning
Dull and cloudy today, such a change from yesterday's sunshine.
A lovely surprise this morning was a phone call from my daughter arranging coming to stay at Mayday weekend. She is booking an afternoon tea for us as a late Mother's day present. So excited as it's not often we get to see both dgd's due to school commitments.
Fish Friday here (well for DH), I'll have scampi.
Have a good day, and hugs to all who need them. Take care.8 -
I spoke too soon - Mr Postie has brought the CT and water bills. The CT one is lower than last year but only because I now get the single person's discount.
The water bill couldn't have been more wrong.I'm on an assessed charge because I can't have a water meter fitted and yes, they had worked it out on that basis but for two people rather than one. And, for some unknown reason, they'd put the payments over eight months rather than ten!
Of course I've rung them and got the usual piped music (not sure what's happened to the call back service, I wasn't offered that option), a selection of brass band music - well, being in Yorkshire it would be, wouldn't it? One of the tunes was That's Entertainment. I must have had
on my shoulder because I was thinking: No, it isn't entertainment waiting for someone to answer (half an hour) to get you to put right a bill that's so obviously wrong. Good job it's a freephone number. Anyway, all sorted and a new bill is on its way. Only £30 pm difference!
While I was in the mood I rang the Pension Credit service; a complete waste of time as they can't give an update on when they'll reach a decision but they're working as hard as they can. Sixteen weeks and counting.
On a better note, the paint samples have arrived and so has part of my Hobbycraft order, the rest is due tomorrow.Be kind to others and to yourself too.8 -

21 weeks and counting for my 84-yr old mum’s claim, same response as you when I rang. So very frustrating when they can’t tell you anything other than they are “working very hard” to get through all the claims.
