PCP end of lease charges
Hi, I’ve just handed my car back after 2 years and I’ve been charged £750 for some ridiculous things. £200 for a missing cable when I only recieved one cable when I got the car. £400 for ‘poor repairs’ I’ve never had the car repaired so how on earth can I be charged for this? Apparently a poor repay has lead to dulling or something and I haven’t had the car resprayed. I’ve never noticed any of this myself and everyone I know has never mentioned anything. I feel like I’m being conned and I’m wondering if I can object to these charges. Thanks for reading

Presumably the delivery documentation stated how many cables should have been provided, back when you got the car?
As for the poor repair - it may have been done prior to delivery. Was the area of the car noticeably different to other areas?0 -
Was the car new or secondhand when you got it?
You can object to the charges yes.
Was it an electric vehicle? Some come with 2 cables from new, some come with 1 or none
What car was it?0 -
It was a used car and I didn’t get anything stating how many cables were in the car. I never noticed any difference but when the inspector pointed it out and I looked very closely I could tellMildly_Miffed said:Presumably the delivery documentation stated how many cables should have been provided, back when you got the car?

The car was second hand and it was an EV which I purchased with only one cable. It was a VW E-Golf 2019Veteransaver said:Was the car new or secondhand when you got it?

Can you prove the cable was missing when you got the car?jayjay97 said:

Can you prove you didn't have it repaired?
Look at it from the other side.
You took the car on, and signed to confirm the condition at that time.
You are now returning it, and the condition is tangibly worse than fair wear and tear would cover, relative to the condition you agreed it was in at the start of the term.
This is one reason why PCPs or leases are not a great idea on used cars. This car would have been 3-4yo at the time you asked the financier to take ownership of it.
Which is it, btw, PCP or lease?
If PCP, does it make more financial sense to pay the balloon and sell the car elsewhere, rather than return it?0 -
All I have is a receipt of the cable I bought to replace the missing one and I couldn’t take any photos of the paint work because it’s basically impossible to see to an untrained person. Also if this was resprayed and repaired by the last owner surely this has been picked up on their return so I don’t see why the issue wasn’t fixed then? It was a PCP dealMildly_Miffed said:

So if you bought a cable to replace the missing one... there's not one missing on return, then? Or do you mean the invoice from the financier? All I have is a receipt of the cable I bought to replace the missing one and I couldn’t take any photos of the paint work because it’s basically impossible to see to an untrained person. Clearly the poor repair wasn't "basically impossible" to see, if the inspection picked it up. Photos?
How do you know the previous ownership was financed by the same financier?

I’ve bought a cable as there was one missing so why should I be giving them my cable when there wasn’t one in the first place? Not one person in the 2 years I had the car noticed anything and as soon as I get the inspection photos they will be shown. That’s true I don’t know it’s the same financier but I guess this goes to show why PCP is a scam after allMildly_Miffed said:
