Gas service contract not checking for leaks

We recently had our old meters (radio teleswtich) changed by our suppliers (OVO) to smart meters.
After the new meters had been fitted the engineer informed us he'd found a pressure drop and would have to cap our supply which he did.
After considerable to'ing & fro'ing British gas with whom we have a boiler service contract located the leak as being to our gas hob which they capped and reconnected us.

We had always assumed that our regular service would check for this sort of leak but the BG engineer (who was great) told us it didn't. Although he did say it was part of the checks they do for landlord properties.
I've had a whatsapp chat with BG about getting this type of leak check included but they're saying they just don't do it at all.
 Any help/advice welcome

If your contract is a boiler service then that has nothing to do with the gas hob. Is it specifically just for boiler or all gas equipment at your premises? Does the policy detail what tests they conduct?

Did the engineer say what the leak rate was, I am wondering why you were unable to smell the leaking gas?

The leak can be tiny and still fail a drop test, they measure the pressure in millibars - a thousand to one bar. probably a lose connection on the hob which a gas engineer can quickly locate and fix with nipping up a fixing or using more gas tape.
